Meanwhile, a reformist MP hit out Sunday at a leading hardline daily for its criticism of a recently-approved bill by the reformist-majority Iran's Majlis which would for the first time ban security forces from entering the campus and homes of senior clerics and Muslim theological schools.

Qorbanali Qandehari, deputy head of the Parliamentary Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy, told his colleagues in the chamber that (Persian daily) Kayhan's report was an affront to the legislators and aimed at spreading lies and manipulating public opinion.

Last Thursday,**** Kayhan*** said the bill would "give concessions to the offenders and law-breakers." It had described the bill as a "dark point" in the history of the Sixth Majlis.

Qandehari, who represents northern Gorgan, said that*** Kayhan**** has dared to deliver such bombshells after the Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on the bickering factions to refrain from political tensions.

He said that it is a "big test" for the Judiciary to conduct a neutral judgment.

The MP also accused the daily of misusing the public funds for insulting purposes.

The deputies approved the bill, setting stiff jail sentences for forcible entry into campuses, allowing police intervention only in emergency cases.
